The best places to watch live 6 Nations Rugby in Hamburg.

January 17, 2023

***CHECK OUT OUR LATEST GUIDE TO RUGBY WORLD CUP 2023 VENUES***

January rolls around once again, and although many will still be making their way through a typically quiet and reflective month, we at The Baby Goat are already looking forward with huge anticipation to the 6 Nations 2023. Back this year with no restrictions, no crowd limits in the stadium or, more importantly, in the pubs, and what's even better, it's not even the biggest rugby event of the year.

We're The Baby Goat, a craft beer brand running our own modern pubs based in Hamburg, Germany. If you're like us, you'll know how great it is to make you're way over to the Pub with a few mates on a 6 Nations Saturday or Sunday and settle in for a few hours of pure rugby entertainment, a bunch of fresh pints and no doubt a good laugh with the crowd around you. We love live rugby, and so do you, and as a Pub company, we also love the Pub. Hamburg as a city also loves rugby and is starting to learn what proper pubs are ;-), it's also fair to say that the opportunities to watch live rugby, whilst improving, are not always easy to seek out, book, or predict in terms of atmosphere. So, we thought we'd write a quick blog to save you some time scanning Google and Facebook Events and deliver those top suggestions for where to watch some egg-chasing.

Here are The Baby Goat's top tips on the best places to watch live 6 Nations Rugby in Hamburg:

Shameless disclaimer: we have our own pubs, and they also appear in the list. You'll have to try them out to see if you agree.

The Baby Goat House, Grindelhof.

1. The Baby Goat House.
Area: Grindelhof.

Our Pie & Ale Pub is in the heart of the super-pretty Grindelhof area. This is a great part of town for access to the lake and a bunch of nice cafes and restaurants. 'The House' as we know it is a small pub with a load of character. You'll find 10 beers on tap and a range of hot, tasty pies and other hot snacks to help soak up those pints.

There's capacity for 30-40 people inside and it's at its best when it's nice and full! Open til 00:00 on weekends. If you're lucky you'll find a nice acoustic set to follow the match so that you can really while away the night in the Pub.

You'll find all the relevant information and link for bookings for the 6 nations 2023 here::

2. The Baby Goat Barn.

Area: St Pauli.

Our second, much larger. pub in St Pauli serving up 12 craft beers alongside a bunch of other drinks and, more importantly, hand-crafted pizzas. An ideal spot for larger groups and especially those looking to push on longer into the famous Hamburg nightlife around the Reeperbahn.

There capacity for 40-50 in front of the big screen and we serve up food until late. We always have live music on the weekends

3. The Fleetenkieker Irish Pub.

Area: Rathaus.

Consistently the top search result for Pubs in Hamburg and we love this pace. It's an epic pub with a great atmosphere and fantastic owners and staff. They have a great range of beers on draught and in cans/bottles. Plenty to keep that thirst at bay!

The place is big, but make sure you get in touch nice and early here, as they'll fill up quickly, particulalrly for the Ireland games! And expect a nice, loud atmosphere in here too!

They have a nice range of food including fish and chips and other pub classics. A great spot to pop into after a walk around Hamburg's old city centre.

Closes at 01:00

Börsenbrücke 10, 20457 Hamburg

The Fleetenkieker - right in the city centre!

4. Paddy's Bar.

Area: Rathaus.

Literally a stone's throw away from the Fleetenkieker, this is a similarly lively and sport-obsessed Pub with a great atmosphere and again a sure-fire place to find all manner of rugby on, almost all the time (somehow).

They have a nice range of drinks inlcluding some great craft beer and ciders, and they also have warm snacks on offer (although less than some other places). You can be sure this place will be full during the 6 Nations and is largely a standing-Pub unless you happen to be one of the lucky people to grab a seat at the back.

Get there early to soak up the pre-game atmosphere and look out for the various rugby teams that frequent this place. They'll most likely be wearing rugby gear.

Closes at 01:00.

Schauenburgerstraße 40, 20095 Hamburg

5. The London Pub.

Area: St Pauli.

Another institution of the Hamburg Pub scene, the London Pub, as you might be able to guess sets itself out there as an old-school pub to please those looking for an easy-going (and late) vibe in and around 'the Kiez' and the Reeperbahn.

They have a selection of local beers as well as some classics (Newcastle Brown Ale!), but don't expect anything too complicated or fancy. No food, and be aware, this is a SMOKER BAR! that means smokey and smelly inside, but if you're up for it, a real nice spot to watch some live sport in a local favourite.

Oh and afterwards you won't have any shortage of options around you!

Closes late.

Hans-Albers-Platz 18, 20359 Hamburg

The London Pub. A traditional option.

So, there you have it! 5 great options to drink good (craft) beer in Hamburg, whilst watching live rugby and enjoying a real local atmosphere.

With all these places, we recommend you do book in advance as places do just fill up quicker than you think.

Now you're all set to watch the 6 Nations rugby! Go and Enjoy! We'll see you soon in the Pub!

Lot's of love,

The Baby Goat
